My spooky Indigo Dress and Ogden Cami Halloween outfit

My spooky Indigo Dress and Ogden Cami Halloween outfit

I whipped up this spider-inspired dress for a Halloween party last October. The brief was something spooky and I didn’t get much time to think too creatively about it, so rather than working around a design, I decided to use a spooky fabric to make something fun. I found this fabulous spider web net fabric at Minerva and purchased 2.5m, in addition to 2m of black Minerva core range soft touch crepe fabric for the slip.

I had previously made another combination of the Tilly and the Buttons Indigo Dress and The Fold Line Ogden Cami, so the patterns were ready to go, I just needed; to do a bit of tweaking. I made a few small tweaks to the sleeves of the Indigo Dress. I hacked the sleeves to made the puff sleeve using a slightly lazy approach. I overlaid a puff sleeve pattern piece from another top pattern onto the standard Indigo sleeve and traced my new puff sleeve. While the slash and spread method is definitely recommended, my approach worked just fine. I also swapped the usual fluted sleeve on the Indigo Dress for a longer one-piece sleeve with three lines of shirring. The shirring wasn’t quite as tight as I had hoped; this may have been down to the loose net fabric.

The Ogden Cami was also hacked since I wanted it to follow the same style as the outer dress. I used the Ogden Cami pattern from the bust upwards, and then used the same gathered skirt from the Indigo dress for the skirt. As I was quite tight on fabric, the gathering lines didn’t quite line up on the cami and dress, but they were close enough. I realised after finishing the dress that my Ogden Cami pattern pieces are a bit small around my back so next time I’ll size up.
