Pleated Culottes

Pleated Culottes

After noticing wide legged pants popping up everywhere recently, I thought I'd jump on the culottes bandwagon and have a go at making my own. I found this pattern for Wide Patterned Culottes on BurdaStyle and bought the fabric from The Fabric Store in Fitzroy. I had initially hoped to find some patterned fabric, but unfortunately I couldn't find any that I was happy with. Being my first attempt at making pants that weren't pyjamas, I'm fairly pleased that they turned out so well.

The process of making the culottes took a little while as I  attempted to navigate the brief instructions on how to create the pleats and pockets. The pleats were definitely the most complicated part of the process, as the instructions were very brief. With a bit of trial and error I eventually got them looking right. My one regret is that I didn't choose a slightly lighter fabric. The black fabric I chose is a really nice high quality fabric, but it also adds a bit more weight to the pleats than I would have liked.
