Vintage Vogue Perry Ellis skirt
There's nothing quite like a free pattern with simple instructions to get me sewing. This Vogue Perry Ellis #1118 pattern came from my Mum's collection circa 1993. The photo on the front of the pattern really doesn't do it justice - thankfully it didn't come out looking at all nineties! I haven't forayed into vintage patterns much before, but maybe this will be the start of something.
From my experience, Vogue patterns tend to be second to none (although there are plenty of boutique pattern brands that I'm yet to try). After using a lot of reasonably cheap pdf patterns that I've bought online, I can really tell the difference in quality. The instructions are very easy to follow and aside from making some very slight sizing adjustments, the skirt is a great fit. The simplicity of the design also made it very easy to make adjustments. I seem to constantly fall into the trap of choosing complicated patterns with pleats and darts, so this skirt was a welcome relief from the usual complications.
The photos don't do it justice, but this fabric has a beautiful sheen and that good quality feel. As usual, I bought the fabric from The Fabric Store in Fitzroy. Now that it's finished, I'm thinking it would be a good skirt to also have in black!
