Persephone Pants by Anna Allen take two
Yes, I have finally become one of those people who loves a sewing pattern so much they are desperate to make it again. I now have two pairs of Anna Allen Persephone Pants and have zero regrets! I absolutely love my first pair of Persephone Pants but they also happen to be slightly too big. When I was selecting the size for my first pair, I sat between the US 4 and 6 but to be honest, I think I was also looking at my old measurements and didn’t check to see if they had changed. Despite adjusting the size of the waist to be much smaller, I found that they were a bit too baggy around my hips. What better excuse could there be to make a second pair?
For my second pair, I went for size 4 without any adjustments. This pair does fit very well but I do think a curved waistband would be better for my body shape. If I manage to make a third pair of these pants, that is probably the only change I will make to the pattern.
I bought the denim from Saeed Fabrics in Walthamstow while I was at a London Stitchers Meetup in 2019. It wasn’t a planned purchase but I’m very happy with my choice. This denim is heavier than the denim I used for my first pair of Persephone Pants but has a slight stretch. I think the size 4 would still fit well without stretch and wouldn’t loosen up as much, but there isn’t so much stretch in this fabric that it’s an issue.
I also used some leftover Crowded Faces Cotton Lawn for the pockets, which I originally used for my Screwdriver Top by Our Lady of Leisure. It’s lovely to have such fancy pockets and always feels great to make use of my leftover fabric stash.
If you haven’t made this pattern yet, give it a go. I have honestly found the Persephone Pants very straightforward to make and have made far fewer mistakes than I have on many other seemingly less daunting patterns. The topstitching does take a bit of time but it’s also oddly satisfying!
