My second Gimlet Boilersuit by Our Lady of Leisure

My second Gimlet Boilersuit by Our Lady of Leisure

My first Gimlet Boilersuit by Our Lady of Leisure that I made in stretch green cord last year has quickly become a wardrobe staple and by far one of my favourite makes. It’s so easy to wear, fits well, it’s super comfortable and it’s an instant outfit. I knew not long after finishing the first one that I wanted to make a second Gimlet Boilersuit in a structured (non-stretch) denim. The pattern is made for woven non-stretch fabrics, so I went ahead and bought this lovely mid-blue 8oz denim from Fabric Godmother earlier this year.

Constructing the Gimlet Boilersuit top

I made the same adjustments as with my first Gimlet Boilersuit; mainly taking in the bulk around the back of the rise and taking in the legs by about 2.3cm (1 inch). I did find that one of the legs twists forward slightly, which I’m guessing means I didn’t quite line up the grain line correctly. I opted for tortoise shell style buttons from MacCulloch and Wallis, which sit nicely with the blue denim.

The main difference between this denim Gimlet Boilersuit and my original corduroy version is the way the different fabrics fit. The corduroy version is much more fitted, and I would say quite flattering. The denim does stretch out and loses shape after one wear, so it’s hard to get multiple wears before a wash without it feeling a bit baggy. I actually think I could have made the denim version a size smaller to counter this, but I have enough Gimlet Boilersuits for now.
