Zadie Jumpsuit by Paper Theory Patterns
I constantly saw the Zadie Jumpsuit popping up in my Instagram feed last year and really wanted to make it but simply ran out of time. With this spring being spent in lockdown, time was something I had plenty of. This pattern is great for sewers who aren’t confident with fastenings as it has none! For more experienced sewers, it’s quite an easy and satisfying make. I have been sewing a few colourful and pastel outfits recently so I decided to go for a more neutral ‘denim blue’ linen from Fabrics Galore. This linen has a really nice weight and gives the jumpsuit a structured appearance.
Before sewing the pattern, I searched through Zadie Jumpsuit posts on Instagram to get an idea of any adjustments I may need to make. A lot of people mentioned that it has quite a low crotch and several people also mentioned making the jumpsuit in a smaller size than usual as it has a loose fit. I decided to embrace the loose fit of the pattern and didn’t adjust anything when tracing the pattern out. After completing the jumpsuit, I tried it on and decided the crotch seam was indeed very low so I took it up by around 2cm. This also had a double effect of smoothing out some of the loose fabric at the back of the jumpsuit. which I noticed some people had mentioned.
The rest of the jumpsuit was relatively easy to sew. The binding on the neckline is really satisfying and so nice to look at. I do recommend using linen for this pattern as it sits so well and gives the jumpsuit some structure. As it is designed with a loose fit to wrap around, I think a more floaty fabric may be a bit too floppy with the wide legs. I don’t have an overlocker/serger so I used the overcasting foot on my sewing machine to finish all of the edges. This used quite a lot of thread - I had bought two spools and ran out just before the end. Next time, I would buy three spools to be safe.
This pattern is great for a comfy WFH or casual outfit. If I make a more dressy version, I might size down the top , taper the legs and significantly reduce the crotch length. I would also love to make a version in a fun, patterned fabric, which would suit the simple cut well.
