Transforming an Old Shirt

Transforming an Old Shirt

So I made a typical rookie mistake. I placed the hot iron down on my silk shirt without looking at the iron... it had something melted on it and a second later that "blackness" had been transferred to my shirt. Most people would consider this a disaster and decide that the shirt had met it's end. Not me. I decided this was a great excuse to transform a long sleeved silk shirt into a cropped sleeveless silk top for summer. The transformation was really quite simple. I tried the shirt on to see how much I could get away with cutting off, and marked it with chalk. I then measured a straight line around the shirt and cut the fabric. I folded the hem 0.5cm, pinned and ironed twice to create a double fold to avoid fraying. I cut the sleeves off about 1.5cm away from the existing seam, and then repeated the process of folding, pinning and ironing. I finally stitched the bottom hem and armholes and it was complete. A whole new top!
